May the Levees Hold

I've had a number of good friends, customers, and comrades check in with me in the last day or so about the risk of flooding in our area, as the Morganza Spillway is set to open up this afternoon. I think we're going to be fine. My house and shop sit about 5 miles from the Atchafalaya Basin, an overflow area for the Morganza. As long as the levees do their job, we're in good shape. Cross your fingers for us. . .

Claremont workshop

Just confirmed my flights to head out to Claremont, CA for the annual violin maker's workshop in June. Excited! I've been attending this workshop with Chicago maker Michael Darnton since it began in 2005 (the first year was in Florida, and I drove to it). It's a wonderful week spent hanging out with other violin makers -- friends at this point -- geeking out about violins for a whole week, and getting some uninterrupted violin building done. I consider it very important professional development, but it's also a really fun time in a beautiful and cool setting. Can't wait! Website is here.
