The Tokyo String Quartet

... is coming to Lafayette ! September 9th at 8PM. In case you aren't aware, all four members play on Stradivari instruments, a group known as "The Paganini Quartet," which are pictured above. The first violin was built in 1727, the second in 1680 (an early Strad), the viola was built in 1731, and the cello in 1736.

Pretty exciting to have Stradivari instruments coming to Lafayette. I already have a 4th row seat. I guess it's only a violin maker who is mostly concerned with (or obsessed with?) the instruments in the concert -- much moreso than the players or the music they're playing. To most people it's the other way around (!)

For ticket info, call the Acadiana Center for the Arts at:
(337) 233-7060. There will be a "special artist discussion" before the concert, at 7PM.

Well, I'm envious! I checked, and Roseburg is not on their itinerary. I'll be interested to see your thoughts on the qtet.

The Tokyo is one of those groups that reminds me of a lot of the old fiddles--the ones with their necks and heads replaced, resized, held together with a soccer-shoe's worth of cleats and patches. I think there's only one of the founding members left, and he's gettin' old. Hey, as long as they sound good!
